Should I start a lighting YT channel? « on: August 30, 2025, 04:49:09 PM » Author: LightsAreBright27
Should I start a youtube channel just for lighting? I want to just make videos of random lamps that are interesting. I'll post mainly fluorescent lighting, some incandescent and HID, and also some niche ones like led and laser. Fluorescents are easy to record as I have all the gear. But for HIDs, I have many ballasts but only a few sockets and plugs, so it will take some time.

I want to know if people with watch my videos and subscribe...

For video editing, should I use Windows live movie maker? I also need channel name, banner image and profile pic suggestions.

Go ahead. I’m sure you’ll quickly gain views and subscribers. The lighting community on YouTube is quite big.

Well then, I'll start it a few hours from now. Currently designing a logo.

The channel is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRrt5hmTa-A1HanHe7yUm-g
I have designed a logo in MS paint.

I'll start posting tomorrow. It will take time as I have to set up ballasts for fluorescent tubes. I'll show my F40T12s first.

I am currently recording, and I need some opinions. I think videos on 3-4 related lamps together will be better than making a video for each one.

For example, take these four tubes, which are similar to each other (same brand).

1) I can make a video of 30-45 seconds for each tube, which means 4 videos total.

2) I can make a single 3-4 minute video about all of these tubes together.

Which one is better in your opinion?

I'd personally make longer videos grouping similar lamps together.

I've finished the first vid! Unfortunately it will be silent as my birds wouldn't stop chirping, and I muted the audio.

Thanks!

Currently, I will do a few more videos about 4ft fluorescents, and put in some special incandescent lamps too!
