Good place to buy replacement HID ballasts? « on: September 07, 2025, 03:26:58 PM » Author: ElectroMan19590
Is there any good websites or stores where you can still buy replacement HID ballasts, and for a decent price?  I would say eBay, but some sellers have some pretty extreme prices for HID equipment and fixtures, even well-used ones. I also looked at the Home Depot, but at least our local store only sells replacement bulbs and LED retrofit kits.  I'm currently rebuilding an old NEMA bucket light that I found that has a broken ballast, and would love run the HPS bulb that it came with.  :)  :hps:

eBay...use PicClick.com to search. Sometimes you'll find sellers who just want to get rid of stuff and will sell at low prices.

 Not too long ago , I bought a N.O.S. 1000w MV ballast from eBay for $25 with FREE SHIPPING !!  They take as little searching , but good deals are out there !

@BT25 So I've been playing around with picClick this afternoon, and I've already found some pretty good stuff! Its definitely way better than the official eBay search in my opinion.  :love:

@wide-lite 1000 Awesome find!  :)  :mv:

@ElectroMan19590 - Yep, isn't a fun way to search eBay? I've been using it for years, and found a lot of cool stuff that way. I've stopped collecting, so I'm not using it anymore, except for important stuff.

PicClick is pretty good for using more generic search terms such as "outdoor light", "light bulb" etc as it lets you quickly scroll through the pictures.

Sometimes the sellers with a good price might have bad descriptions that more descriptive searches will miss.

For ballasts, another trick is to look up the part numbers of the ballasts you want and then search only the part number, you get different hits searching for 71A5590 compared to searching something like "175w metal halide ballast".

I get good results using catalog numbers for ballasts and ANSI codes for lamps.
