The American semi-parallel ignitors are of different topology than the European semi-parallel ignitors.

The American semi-parallel ignitors aren't the same as our semi-parallel ignitors. They have different glow discharge on HPS and MH lamps during hot restrike.

Many possible reasons for that other than the ignitor topology. As matter of fact the topology is provided in the datasheets of SIDACs used in those ignitors (they are made by Littelfuse)
