If you had to sacrifice a hid fixture… « on: January 16, 2026, 08:16:42 PM » Author: stillaintjeff24
If you had to completely make a model of hid fixtures disappear, for a led fixture, what brand would you get rid of and replace it with?

For example:

Ael 115

Yeah I’d agree with the swap you said, that’s actually exactly what would happen around here. lol But I’d say a AEL 115 or a GE M250R2, both HPS versions though. It’s not that I don’t like these, but they were so ubiquitous around here, I’d rather those than a GE split door or an AE  Series 25.

ATBO killed 115s in my area along with GE ERL series when the ATBO series started failing
I would go OVZ for ATBS

Polam Gostynin OUS 400 to Elgo Adeco.

Adecos' are pretty much non existant in Poland tbf.

I Photograph Polish streetlights and sometimes buy some from OLX for collection.

Biggest Polish streetlight manufactures were Elgo Gostynin and Mesko Lighting. Elgo however closed down in 2016...

Crappy no-name yard light for LED yard blaster.

I like math, lighting, computers and electronics(but I detest fractions and pointless ruinage of lovely old stuff). LEDs should be better thought out. they are actually quite good if they are good quality. They should be built to a long actual life not to a cheap price!

A yard blaster is a Res grade area light for the North American market, many of which are horrid quality. Very different to a street light, much worse than a NEMA head too, some of which are good quality.

I'm a little confused...

Are you aware of some of those lights? Defo the worst style of north american HID lantern. I'll try and find some pics of them falling apart.

Wow, didn't know such a blast would blast out on this topic. But as of, @lightsofpahrump:

I guessing you don't even know what even both of these are. If you would even care to interest in Elgo and Polam, you'd know much better that an OUS 400 is way better than you think. And even saying "Crappy" enough makes me thing you not even know about Polish fixtures. First of all, An Elgo made ballast already gives a fixture no name as "Crappy". Best made ballasts in the whole Poland, and maybe even in Europe. Second of all, they use Aluminium to make the streetlights, and either use Glass or acrylic bowls to ensure durability instead of some (censored) Polycarbonate ones. Fixtures like these can literally last 50 years, or even 100 if they use Alloy aluminium and Glass bowls. However, later in 2000s, indeed sadly used Polycarbonate.

Second of all, Yet LED fixtures from Poland may not be very reliable, I still would choose an Adeco, and as I said, it was never used in Poland.

Also, just because you think they are very unreliable cheap fixtures is what everyone thinks from America and England. Say something like this to a Random Polish guy, you'd immediately get into a fight. Be thankful I didn't start fighting about some "yard Blaster", or otherwise there would be a case about me and you. Otherwise, I'm out of this, you be what you want to be, I'll be want I want to be. That's what I was told all those years.

@SussexEuroSOX:

You don't even need to start this. This isn't even your case. Already enough you made some tiny chaos. Listen, if he wants to call Polish streetlights some Yard Blaster, let him do it, that already makes enough seem he does not know a thing.

End of the discussion.

Hey guys, I’m sorry to intrude, but who mentioned polish fixtures? @Baked bagel 11 was talking about North American Yard lights. You know, the barn lights that sometimes fall apart or are neglected? No one even mentioned European Fixtures…Correct me if I’m wrong, but no one here is trying to insult anybody. All @Baked bagel 11 was trying to say was those yard lights with the cheaper aluminum shells and sometimes referred to as “tin foil” reflectors he said he would want those replaced with a newer LED version.
