I using it with my camera to capture closeup of the arcs of my MH lamps, and this exposes the filter to very high temperatures.
I don't scratch the filter.

There are rather clear rubbing marks. Where and how it is stored? Hadn't it fallen down on something? What are you using for cleaning?
I woulg guess it isn't that much what it is used for, but what is happening to it when not used...
