Hello everyone ! I know I have another thread on slowing down fans, but that project never came to light. I am now trying a different variation on the same theme. I would like to find a small motor that would be able to drive a 12 inch (approx) fan at maybe 45 rpm or thereabouts. I would not be opposed to make a belt drive unit, although direct drive would work as well. The idea is a noiseless fan to gently encourage hot air from the second story to make its way downstairs. The fan would be in a place where no one would bump into it so a grille would not be necessary on account of the slow speed. As far as speed, this would be similar to Ecofan units typically used on wood burning stoves. I know Ecofan offers replacement motors and I am wondering if this would be something that could work. This application would require 24/7 operation. The only thing is I would have to figure out the voltage that the Ecofan module sends to the motor. Otherwise, I have thought about turntable motors. In any case, I don't think I will be able to find the motor I am looking for at 120V so some kind of power supply would be required.

Regarding ecofans - once you figured up whether or not it is ac or dc, you can just ramp up the voltage on a variac/ bench supply till you like the speed.
