Don't murder me, but me personally I prefer 5000K. To me it appears pure white. I do like CW tubes, but that kind of W just isn't C enough. Especially for utility spaces like my bench.

For living spaces I do see a lot of warmer setups that look reasonable, but I personally just prefer 5000K.

For me, as I've been surrounded by 6500k (cool daylight) lights for almost my entire life (almost 80% of all the lighting in India is 6500k, indoor or outdoor), I very much prefer warm tones.
I like 2700k for dimmer lights (like reading lamp) and 3000k for bedrooms, etc. I also like 5000k for work areas as it feels closest to sunlight.

I don't like 4000k much as it's a bit of an odd mix of warm and cool, it could be used for streetlighting. But something I can absolutely agree on is 6500k is horrible.

Depends on the application. For general living areas and bedrooms, 2,700K. For bathrooms, 3,000K. For laundry rooms and outside, 5,000K.

For me too, it depends on the application. Most living spaces of my house at night are 3000K or incandescent. In the kitchen, under cabinet are 5400K in CRI 90. One lamp mainly in use during daytime dark cloudy days is CMH in 942. I have a couple of Osram PowerBall in 3000K in my living room and they make a nice warm light.

Basement is a mixture.

My all around favourite for colour rendition is ceramic metal halide in 942.

I use 2700K by default, primarily for bedrooms and general living areas for comfort. Outside is also 2700K, with the exception of the motion lights at 4000K. I use 5000K for utility areas where color rendering is of more importance, such the closet, pantry, garage, the laundry room. Most lamps are 80 CRI, the newest are 90 CRI.

I agree, 2700K-3000K is decent and 5000K is the closest we have to a pure white (easily obtainable, that is), anything over that like 6500K and the blue tones start becoming more noticeable which is something I despise.

Again, I agree, 3000k for living areas, and 5000k for the utility areas in a home. For outdoor lighting, I much, much prefer 4000k, it gives a good colour IMO, as well as being pleasant to be under. 3000k feels too, yellow, for my liking. All of the streetlighting in my area is 4000k, even the newest lights (though it was planned to be 3000k, but the government was too slow to agree).

@Baked bagel 11  while I feel 4000K is a warmer tone, it lands in an uncanny valley for me. I'd like to hear from you, do you consider 4000K to be a cooler or warmer tone of white?
You got lucky, my city's latest batch of streetlights are LEDVance units that vary between 6500K and 7500K per unit and there are some that gave degraded into 8000K that I've come across! :D

Honestly, I'd consider it neither, but rather neutral white. While still a 'comfortable' colour, it also isn't too warm.

What model of Ledvance LEDVance lights are being installed near you, if you know?

Interesting, well put. As for the LEDVances, to be completely honest I've put in zero work in trying to find more but I'll try and get some pics of them tomorrow.

I found some of them below, there's 2 variants I've encountered--one array and two array and I'm probably butchering the model names. I don't wanna get too specific with my location so I instead clicked on random areas that are somewhere near me on the streetview map, these are what I found:

Single array:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/YGujqo8parQSQ9Qv7
https://maps.app.goo.gl/Zy1LuL373oCmRJgU9
Double array:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/gscZnBHtnGfTEGQXA
https://maps.app.goo.gl/pugL38no6HwWNCSf8

Maybe you'll have better luck identifying them than me, before I'm done searching through the LEDVance catalog.

We use 2700K for living spaces. In my room I use it for a reading light -
previously I was using 6500K, but the F20 lamps were too bright and I noticed
it messing with my sleep.

In the garage, 4100K. Modern triphosphor/halophosphate mix fluorescents have
good color rendering and the color temperature is not offensive. I also use
this for the main lamps in my room.

5000K is only used for some accent lights in my room at the moment.

6500K is in my brother's room, and whatever random CFLs we have outside or in
the garage. Most of my family hates this color.
