Electrician with a heart like a raccoon

Blue Streetlight!? « on: September 12, 2026, 12:25:39 AM » Author: BuzzyBallast
So just the other night I was out driving and in my area of Tamarac, Florida I passed by one lone LED streetlight, though I don't know what make/model it is and it was brightly lit up but it was blue!? Like they installed a blue LED lamp.
What in the world is that all about? It's the only one I know of never seen anything like it.
I'm pretty sure it's owned and maintained by the county and not FPL.
Now I remember several years back FPL had a problem with high wattage LED streetlights turning purple I remember seeing a whole stretch of them, I think they were called Autobahns but I may be wrong but FPL took care of it but this streetlight I'm asking about is definitely not purple it's blue.
Somehow I'm going to have to get a picture of it.
Just wondering if anyone knows why it's blue  :wndr:

It's due to the phosphor falling off the diodes.

Yep, improper phosphor application. Acuity Brands, Visionaire Lighting, and even some older King Luminaire models suffered from this issue.

@LightsoftheWest: I'm going to post a picture of it as soon as possible so you can identify it for me but I'm also hoping to get a picture of it lit up either close to sunset or after it's dark. Though I hope it never gets replaced since blue is my favorite color it's like a dream come true driving down the street and seeing a blue streetlight. I hope it stays that way for a long time.

@Baked bagel 11: I bet that would be an LG first trying to save a defective LED streetlight, makes it all the more fun

I think someone has a purple ATB2, but I can't think of any blue ones! I wonder if the blue one is an ATB2, or sometbing else.

@Baked bagel 11:I don't know what it is but I plan to upload a picture of it hoping to find out something about it.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to get a picture of it when it's lit up and the blue is really visible, craziest thing I've ever seen in a streetlight.

Maybe just a pic in the day and one at night would be helpful.

I like math, lighting, computers and electronics(but I detest pointless ruinage of nice old stuff). LEDs should be better thought out. they are actually quite good if they are good quality. They should be built to a long life not to a cheap price!

Or I could save it and say it's defective junk but I think it's cool anyway because blue is my favorite color.
