About the General Electric Wallighter (Or WL400) « on: September 26, 2026, 06:14:45 AM » Author: PabTheSpanish
During my search days when i was looking through tunnel lights all around Spain on Google Streetview, i've always came across this specific fixture on most tunnels, specially around Madrid. I highly suspected it was from GE since it was surrounded by products of the same brand: https://www.google.com/maps/@36.7403659,-4.3850195,151a,15y,142.77h,105.31t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1sWIFiLIBWpDRAaI5eVEWjgQ!2e0!5s20081001T000000!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D-15.305763465784679%26panoid%3DWIFiLIBWpDRAaI5eVEWjgQ%26yaw%3D142.76852479121686!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDkyMy4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

A few months ago i found out it was infact GE and it had similarities with the "Wallighter WL400", or it might be exactly that, but i think it's a different product due to its back, mount and the reason it's used for.
I really wanna know more about this specific fixture since i've never heard of this nor saw it in any available catalogues of hadasa or GE in particular from Spain.

And if it really is a different fixture to the Wallighter, please let me know!

Those are early examples, too! This luminaire debuted around 1967, but went under a different name (Tunnel & Underpass Luminaire). It had the rounded back housing, as seen here. Around the early '80s, it underwent a design revision and got the square housing that is seen more commonly. GE ended production of the Wallighter 400 in 2017.

Interesting, Spain did have a boom with GE everywhere between the 1960s and 1980s so that explains a lot, there have been rarer models all around including a street of M-400A2 FCOs around the center of Madrid, however they've already been replaced by "LED" heritage fixtures in 2025.

Thanks for the information @LightsoftheWest !
