EARLY slimline lamps « on: May 05, 2011, 01:05:39 PM » Author: Powell
I remember seeing F96T8( I don't think they were T6...although the F42T6 is still around ) 4 lamp fixtures in Artlite in Atlanta. Black ended bulbs.  I wonder when they were discontinued ??

The F96T8 lamps are still made today! I see them in use once in a while around here.

I mean the ORIGINAL ones. You can't use the new ones on a magnetic ballast.....well you can, but you won't like the results......   ;D

Yep I mean the old F96T8/CW lamps that are 50-51w at 200mA. The modern ones do work, but are a little different they are 255mA.

I remember seeing T8 lamps installed in an F96T12 fixture located in a supermarket back in the 1970s. They were pulsating and didn't seem to like the T12 ballast.

I have seen the same thing! Pulsating means the lamps are overdriven.

I only tested it on a magnetic T12 ballast (which the ballast didn't like too much until the lamp warmed up LOL) I could try on a electronic sometime :) I think someone here said it will work!

Everyone, yes you can use a 50w 200ma F96T8 lamp on a 59w slimline F96T8 ballast, the 200ma lamp is actually designed to operate anywhere between 100-300ma. Slimline lamps were introduced in the 40s.
