New 20 watt fixture « on: June 02, 2011, 04:03:28 PM » Author: Powell
Yesterday I got a 2 lamp 20 watt Lithonia Lighting strip fixture. I didn't read the side carefully as it has a solid state ballast. It lights the lamps like a regualr rapid start or trigger start would. It doesn make some noise in a radio IF I hold it close to the radio. It's to go in the radio building over the opeating desk. If it gets into the radio at all, I'll convert it to magnetic. However the magnetic trigger start ballasts I have seen do not have as much output. I expect this fixture will make wonderful EOL shows.  It was missing the key that holds the white cover in place. Lithonia is sending me a replacement. The nice lady I talked to in Conyers is sending me 6.

... it has a solid state ballast...

Well, the only non-"solid state" ballasts i know is the preheat (the glow-bottle starter uses gas and moving components; the only AC powered type) and then vibration and/or rotary low voltage DC powered converters.

Large coil wound on the stack of iron foils is neither moving, neither liquid, nor gaseous component...

Well, there is Rapid Start/ Trigger Start..... magnetic. Preheat would be a pain to do in this fixture.

Well, there is Rapid Start/ Trigger Start..... magnetic.

But all these are not using any moving (,...) parts, so they are solid state as well...

I know, I'm just stirring... :-D
