New eBay purchase....8 watt lamp « on: August 02, 2011, 12:57:49 PM » Author: Powell
He had it listed as 1930s but it's likely 1950s. The older Sylvania bulb (CW) had minimal use. When I hit the start button the ends lit up blue so I held the button down for 15 seconds and both ends turned BLACK from the mercury and 30 minutes later it is mostly burned off. The bulb likely has more mercury than 10 F40T12 Alto lamps..... ;D

It was $32 I think with shipping.

It has very interesting construction. Too bad they couldn't have made the base a tad taller to house the ballast.

I posted a picture of the bulb in lamps and my folder. I don't know the date.

Interesting remote ballasted desk lamp.  Also unusual how they ran the cord straight to the head instead of through the base.  Nice find!  8)

I have 2 other lamps, both with ballast in cord, but not exactly done this way. This is a cool looking lamp. I took the 1963 Sylvania lamp out.

There is now a similar fixture up on eBay that's brown, not black, and not in as good of shape.
