my first rreal Nema head is coming « on: December 08, 2011, 09:41:34 AM » Author: funkybulb
well I bought my first real  nema head GE SA201 MV on Ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/150710624713?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

now the only thing is i need to find a refractor for this one and mounting arm for it.
i remember these in my old resdential hood when i grew up in. been wanting one of these for years
finly got a hold of one. going to preserve this one inside my shop to keep it in good shape. i am sure it will blow the regent yard blaster away.

This one is likely one of the last MV GE's made. In 2007 GE switched from the narrowish NEMA tag font they have almost always used and switched to the wider font on this NEMA.

I believe these are some of the best NEMA head designs. I still prefer the traditional style but I have a couple of these GE's and they run very quiet. Also, the way the ballast is mounted seems efficient at dissipating heat.

@don93 kind of notice that from the average yard blaster and some of them can run quite hot and noisy.
this ballast is butted up under the housing. i thought that was cool design feature. but how ever i am still
looking for a refractor for it. i may ended up using a satlite dish mounting arm for it.

Nice!! I just bought a MV SA-201 myself real cheap; it is a NOS; has a 240V ballast but I might just swap in a 120V one, unless the SA's ballast is a multitap

Most of those NEMA ballasts are typically single boltage units since space is limited inside the little heads.

Thanks for the info!! My MV SA-201 just arrived today! I think I can help you out with the replacement bucket refractor as well!

Go to this site:

http://www.surpluscityliquidators.com/type_search/288//2/

They have These GE NEMA refractors at $3.00 each, plus shipping; you might want to order a few since they are so cheap! Minimum order is $20.00, so there might be something else you'll like, too. Check them out!! I'm going to order a few to have around as extra spares, myself. By the way, these will fit Powrbrackets, SA-201's and pretty much any NEMA head.
