Im just wondering because I have a nema with a 175 watt ballast.I have also a 100W bulb that I never fired up.I was thinking about changing the mogul socket with a medium socket, and rewire it that way.Just let me know.I really want to operate that 100w bulb.

I wouldn't recommend doing so, as there is a (rather high) chance of a arc tube explosion, as the vapor gets overheated. It should start, though. The lamp, however, should start fine, and may even run up fine, though the certainty of a reduced life.

How about leaving the bulb on for one minute?

Probably could,(I still wouldn't recommend it), but probably should cover it up to prevent the chance of an explosion of the arc tube.

I was talking with MEDVED and ASH on a similar subject and they both said the same thing that lowpressuresodiumsox said.  You might be able to get some time out of it,  but no guarantee.

If power consumption is a concern you could try using a LOA 65 Watt buster bulb.

Or as I already wrote on other places, the 100W MVis compatible with 70W pulse start MH ballast (I forgot it's ANSI code), you only have to deactivate the ignitor.
