How much electricity cost in your area? « on: June 25, 2015, 03:25:15 AM » Author: Roi_hartmann
I just paid my electricity bill for two previous month (bill being 183EUR with consumption of 1328kWh for two months) and I was just wondering how much electricity cost in your area? There are ofcourse probably lots of difference in billing like taxes and how often price of electricity is checked etc. Heres segregation what it cost to me.

Total cost of electricity to me is 13,82 euro cent per kWh which builds up these components

cost of electricity itself costs currently 7,23 euro cent per kWh (in my deal, the price is checked 4 times per year, After the end of this month price is dropping to 6,45 euro cent per kWh. in here, you can buy electricity whichever energy manufacturer you want, usually trying to find cheapest one. this is the only component you can actually tender) with an addidional basic fee of 2,5EUR per month.

Then there is transfer fee that you pay to company whose power grid your house is connected.(and which company it is, is based on where you live). transfer fee is 2,5 euro cent per kWh + tax 2,78 euro cent per kWh + small tax of 0,02 euro cent per kWh that goes to support of state of emergency energy reserves. And to top of that there is basic fee that depends size of main fuses in your house. In my case thats 3X25A so 103EUR per year and thats most common one here (second most common being 3X35A). All the transfer fees are public information and can be seen from power grid companies website.

There is (now mandatory) smart meterin used in Finland so billing is by real usage and not estimation + checking once a year like before.

We have smart meters here too. They can show if the unit has been tampered with. I'll have to check with the power company about the bill coat though.

Here it's about $0.10/kWh for the first 1000 kWh, and about $0.11/kWh thereafter.

About 20Euro cents per kWh for just the electricity plus about the same for the distribution and "renewable energy sources" fees, plus some time based payment for reserved power.
But I have just the small 1x25A connection.

It's normally around £47 per month here we are on a fixed rate for 3 years so we gain in summer and lose in winter

Smart meters are creeping in here, but not mass replacements (and i hope there won't be)

Here the cable is going from the utility pole at the road to the underground, goes underground to a meter cabinet which is still near the road, and from there undrground to the house. A couple years back a car wiped clear the cabinet which serves my & neighboring house, the power company installed new cabinet with mechanical meters. Few other houses around have the smart meters though

Are you sure these are smart meters?
I've seen plenty of electronic meters, but their function was nothing else than the "mechanical" ones.
The only additional feature spreading out in recent years is the remote readout, but still the function is the same.
So neither of these could be labeled as "smart meter" or so...

On the other hand any two tariff meter system (meter plus command receiver) in fact belong to the "smart meter" category (the tariff is changed according to the utility needs, of course within the contract limits), so in the mechanical form the smart meter systems are in use for more than 30 years (when I count only really the remote controlled switching, not the timer only)...

Here the electronic are smart, installed when somebody asks for three-rate tariff on opt in basis. Otherwise you stay with single rate

30 years ago we had a different system, but it is abandoned for the last 20+ years and not used anymore even where components are still present :

House is getting 2 power supplies, through 2 simple meters. One of them is getting power allways, one in the night, controlled by the power company from upstream through a contactor. The circuits in the house are hardwired to each supply, with most loads on the "normal" and loads like water heater tank and other storage heating systems (with the bricks that keep the heat etc, they used to be common at some point in big houses) to the "night". At night, in the time they want, they switch on your "night" loads (they guarantee to switch them on every night but exact time can vary)
