The parking lot floods where the ice arena was demolished are still standing. Today, we might try and go there, explain that I am a lighting collector, offer them money, and give them our phone number and email. But, I was wondering if there were any other things you could do to get them to take them down and save them? I was told that if you don't offer them money, they won't do it. Is there anything else that can be done to ensure that they get saved? Here is a pic.

I was told that beer works too.... But you really have to meet the workers face to face to guess whether beer will be appreciated as exchange, or to the contrary, treated as a sign of you being a drunktard that thinks alcohol is a substitute for $.... For me, i once saved 3 floodlights for nothing more than going and asking, explaining that i am studying electrical engineering and therefore am interested... http://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=2096&pos=25&pid=55647

But they might be interested in where etc. If you dont really study, dont go into talking about stuff you;ll have to fake up.... You can allways just say that you are _interested_ rather than _study_. Little difference but can save you from an awkward moment

That's what I meant.

If you were here you'd be able to steal it all you want, the blame would go on the bucket lift owner..... (based on a case that happend here a while back, made headlines with outrageous court decision)

The case, in short :
Driver stops the car (car A) at a gas station, goes for 1 minute out to talk to somebody in another parked car nearby. He shut off the engine, and left the keys on the driver seat
In his plain sight a thief walks into his car and drives off
After a short police pursuit the thief crashes into car B, makes ~$4000 damage to car B
Thief caught and sent to jail
Car B owner sues for damages. Court rules car A owner to be held responsible to pay them, for "negligence of leaving the car unattended in a way that it can be stolen". Not the car thief....
We have gone over 15 pages of debate on the case in another forum.....
The most outrageous part ? that few others in that debate second the court's decision, with claims that come down to "we must fight against such negligence, think what if a kid would get hurt....."

i second this. There was a bucket lift in a lowes that was left overnight with the keys in the ignition. Thankfully no one stole it, but that was lucky.

I have some more news: First, the floods are still standing, untouched, while the area is being worked on. Then some bad news: On two of the floods, the lenses are literally hanging by a latch. One gust of wind, and they could be gone. Also, I saw inside one of them, and the lamp appeared slightly smaller than a BT56, but larger than a BT37. My guess is that my eyes were playing tricks on me, but were 1000 or 400w lamps ever made in unusual sizes? The fixtures also appear slightly too small for 1000w lamps... Also, I think I am going to have to find a way to email them about getting the lights, because the site is huge and it would be hard to get anyone's attention there.

I never had problem finding the people by asking a worker on the site. Ask for the electrician or owner
But be carefull as you may 1. be kicked out (at the very least) for trespassing on the work site - if it is fenced. 2. be kicked out for doing something dangerous ie going through rubble over which you may trip (and be a lawsuit risk for them)
So best look for where they are not near the demolition or machinery and then come and ask
