I am thinking about LED replacing fuorescent and HID, which LED is generally not suitable for.

LEDs a miracle? Ha! More like the devil's gift to lighting enthusiasts!

It's double edged tech if you ask me.
Devil's things: eBay (and similar sites) generic LEDs. Producers who doesn't give a crap whether their products lasts or has good CRI.

Miracles: the good brands' products. Like they know what they're doing when they made them. Good lifespan and high CRI.

Why I like LEDs on top of other lighting tech?
LEDs = Upgrade 95% of the applications. (That is if you avoid eBay's LEDs).

LED brainwash? No, people uses them cuz they work well for them.

And most good retailers sell the good LED bulbs.

I think that the smartphone revolution also contributed to the LED lighting boom, since before the 2000's, the only field to being developed very fast, was computers, and from 2000-2007, the cell phones joined to it, and only after Apple iPhone breakthrough, which changed the meaning of consumerism, promotion and advertising in general consuming as well as planned obsolescence, the rest fields accelerated their development speed as well. If the LED lighting would be exhibited before the current millenium, it won't catch al all. This can be seen with CFLs. During their invention at the 80's, they weren't a commercial success because of their high prices and their other disadvenages such as non asthetic design and their large size over incandescent, and only during the 2000's they suddenly gained popularity.
I also think that it have to do with the nature of LED lighting, as it is completely electronic and semiconductor based, and technologies based on semiconductors and electronics tends to being developed faster than other non electronic/semiconductor technologies.
