35W GE M-400A2 Powr/Door?? « on: April 13, 2008, 03:02:37 PM » Author: GE M-400A1
I just scene a M-400A Powr/Door with a NEMA tag that said "3"! Is there a mogul base 35W HPS lamp even? Never scene a HPS that small in a mogul base! And it is not an M250 because it is too big to be one! I will upload a picture of it soon! The fixture is only 10 feet off the ground!!
 ;) ;)

I'll bet it's ballasted to run a 360w HPS lamp. The 360 is the Econo-watt version of the 400w S51 lamp. If so, it's cool that they have the "3" stickers already. Most utilities would leave the "4" on there. Maybe they're changing them as they retrofit?

No it is 35 watt HPS

a 360 would have 36 yellow on it like a green 36 that is for a retrofit 360 watt HPS for MV ballasts....so a

3 = 35
5 = 50
7 = 70
10 = 100
15 = 150
17 = 175
20 = 200 (I last night dreamt I was in NJ Turnpike and found a fallen GE FCO fixture with truss arm and saw it had a 200 watt HPS and took it for Spencer!
20 = 250
31 = 310 (common in CA and Chicago)
36 = 360
40 = 400
70 = 700 (never saw one though)
X1 = 1000 watt!

Never heard of a big M-400 having a 35w lamp in it. It will be interesting to see the ballast door with the tiny ballast on it. Is it FCO?

Why I like LEDs on top of other lighting tech?
LEDs = Upgrade 95% of the applications. (That is if you avoid eBay's LEDs).

LED brainwash? No, people uses them cuz they work well for them.

In BGE, I have seen 100 watt HPS in bigger GE fixtures, and one lineman told me in AA county he saw a Westinghouse OV-25 Tudor with 100 watt MV!

The fixture is a 35W HPS and it is in an vacont lot across my warehouse. I scene the guy who owned it and he said that he retrofitted it for a 35W HPS medium base.

Well that makes more sense then. If the owner retrofitted it, it's not a factory-issued 35w M400 then. Can't imagine GE using one of the biggest housings they make to run the lowest wattage HPS lamp made. Of course, never say never right??? ;) :D

Just checked here too and the lowest wattage M400 they make is 100, so this is becoming a real mystery!

Even a 100watt M400 Is wierd. I thought Anythign after 250watt would use a M400 Housing..The 35 watt definetley sounds like it has been altered at one time. Some power companys insted of replaceing the whole fixture will just de-gut it and wire in a new ballast cause it's much cheaper. Other power companys will just replace the fixture whole with new FCO and usually the cheapest make possible. That is what they are doing in my area, Replaceing semi-cuttoff 250watter with FCO 100watters.

If you check the GE M-400 catalog here it does specify that it can go as low as 70 watt

But GE M-250 series lowest is 50 which the bigger ones do not have see here

That is wierd, Why does GE use such a large houseing for such a small ballast and bulb? Is the housing more durable or somthing over other smaller models?  ???

I can see the OVZ with the lowest of a 50 watt, but the bigger OVX that's wierd.The OVX shouldn't go lower than 150 watt.
