my old friend proteus the prawn!

go insane at my gumball it has a merc vapor then they dont even care about the hps !! is that becasue the kelvin temp they can see it or something ? the hps and security lights "regent hps 70 watt " dont even get touched but the merc vapor last night was liek the ultimate bug light any ideas why guys ? just curious

Insects are sensitive to UV light. Mercury vapor has alot in the blue to UV spectrum. Bugs are also blind to yellow light, hence, the yellow " bug bulbs"
that don't attract them.

ahh ok i was just like man look at them the streetlight across the street is a 100 hps then moms gumball is a 175 watt merc and it was crazy one night there were tons of bugs all over it and its funny even with a clean sel on the glass and bell housing bugs always seem to find ther way in lol thx for the info

Thats kind of funny I lit a 100 watt HPS at night once and it attracted wasps and bees (and then they flew into the house :o :o :o)

HPS still emits a little bit of UV, perhaps the wasps were attracted to that little bit because there was no other UV sources that were more powerful around.


Why do bugs still manage to invade properly sealed fixtures?????
