HPS Problems « on: April 26, 2008, 05:06:46 PM » Author: GE M-400A1
Hey, I have a 50W HPS Wallpack with an American made 50W Westinghouse lamp. The other day when i plugged it in the lamp just arcing for 5 min before it actually started. It has been doing this every time i turn it on. Does anyone know why! Thanks

It CAN be the lamp too, try the lamp in different fixtures and see if it does the same or not

Yeah, it's probably the lamp,I have a 400W HPS that arcs.I've tried it in other fixtures and it does the same, it won't light even after 20min.

Yeah the bulb is bad! I put a fake Westy in it and it started just fine!

Sometimes a lamp is not "compatible" with some ballasts, esp. For modern ballasts. I have a ballast that works with some bulbs and some that won't work. So before assuming that bulb is bad, try it on other ballast.
