How rare are 4 way refractors on modern streetlights? « on: March 16, 2017, 01:39:26 PM » Author: Lumex120
I recently found out that there is more than 1 type of refractor for cobraheads. 2-way, and 4-way. I don't know what 4 way refractors look like (can't even find a picture of one) but on a few AEL 113's at intersections here, I noticed that the refractor has an oval shape in the middle, and it is divided into 4 parts. They also don't project much light onto nearby properties and keep it focused on the intersection. I can get a picture of one once I find my camera, but until then, how rare are 4 way refractors?

I have a 4 way refractor that came with my GE M250R1. Message Mike (streetlight98) and he could give you a detailed deacription of their purpose.  They generally send the light into an X pattern and were designed for intersections.

I know what they are (they are quite common around here). Are they rare in other areas though?

They are rare where I live.  As a matter of fact, only 3 still exist in the township I live in, and of those 3, I own 1  ;D.

AEL still offers 4-way refractors on their Model 115 Cobrahead.  Not sure about the 125.  GE no longer offers 4 way refractors, neither does Cooper.
