Streetlights from Keeping Up Appearances « on: December 16, 2017, 08:26:55 PM » Author: Cole D.
Maybe some of you from the UK can help. But I sometimes watch the series Keeping Up Appearances and I noticed some of the steetlights. In the episode when Hyacinth and Richard go to the Fancy Dress Ball there's a scene where they keep walking past a house because Hyacinth wants to meet the new neighbor and you can see the streetlights. They are post top lanterns of some kind that are black. I think they might be GEC, but I can't get a picture of it but maybe someone has seen it and knows. Also the fixtures on Hyacinth's street seem interesting, I'm not sure what they are either.

Some of the pictures of people getting the old lights just reminded me of this.

I don't think I remember that show in particular, I have heard of it since we get a lot of British comedy here in Australia. I've seen a lot of classic street lights in shows like The Bill, Only Fools and Horses, One Foot in the Grave and Fawlty Towers which all get repeated here commonly.

The episode was called "The Mayor's Fancy Dress Ball", they do indeed look like GEC Z571s, but on the other side of the road, (its on you-tube), one has a top canopy, which could be Thorns Gamma 6?, or maybe their mixed?
The large base however at the bottom of the lantern are more than likely Thorns, as I don`t think GECs Z571 had this?

Ah yes one of my favourite tv series. Good old 1990s tv.

Yeah they are GEC Z5699s gear in the large base of the lantern

Thanks for identifying them guys. I have another if you wouldn't mind. In the episode The Rolls Royce, at the very beginning when Hyacinth and Richard are leaving the building and go outside to the parking lot there are some clear globe fixtures with cylinders inside them. Any idea?

Bit more tricky to pin point this one, as most of the big names made amenity globes, however Crompton was the largest, so I guess these are their `Strarda` model?
They also could be, (bit hard to tell from the film), Thorn`s `Cityscape Sphere`, GECs `ZD 4542`, or Philips`s `Decorative Post Top` from their amenity range?
From what I can see though I`d say Cromptons Strarda ;)
