a clear mercury vapor lamp is about 5700k while most coated bulbs range from 3900k-4100k,i notice some mercury vapor nema heads in my neighborhood have coated bulbs that appear very blue(aroung 6500k).

Coated MV lamps are not that blue! They are like 4000 to 4300 at the most!

it sure looked blue to me,and it is possible to put daylight phosporus on a mercury vapor lamp,actullay the average color temp of a coated bulb is from 3900-4200 kelvin,but once again it depends on the type of phosporus,anything is possible.

Maybe it's a retrofit probe start MH lamp in that light rather then an MV?

I am not sure why the brand new ones are bluish but I know that /W coated MV lamps were around 6500 color like a 6500k fluoro...but they aren't made no more...
