I was wondering this, because whenever I go out of town I usually see a few new LED fixtures being installed to replace NEMA fixtures. My co-op replaces any HPS NEMA heads with LED as they need service. Duke Energy doesn't use NEMA heads. But if an HPS cobra needs service they still replace it with an AEL 115 HPS FCO cobra. But if it's a new installation though, like if someone requests a streetlight or area light where there was none before, then they use an AEL ATB0 LED.

So I wonder if they might stop making NEMA fixtures, since I don't know who is still buying them if everyone is going to LED?

Also do you think since GE's lighting business was sold, they'll discontinue all HID fixtures for LED?

I think so, because the demand for LED is very high now these days.

What does it matter if it is NEMA or not?

My electric co-op still installs NEMA fixtures. I noticed a new one in a yard the other day.
