Can I run a 700 watt mercury vapor bulb on a 1000watt mercury vapor/metal halide ballast safely??

I believe all you have to do is change the capacitor values but I'm unsure.

I'm unsure but I know that 700 mercury ballasts were usually 1000 watt ballasts with a different capacitor.... I'll search around for further info for you.

I don't know if this will help but my 700 w MV OV-50  has 3 caps- 2) 7.5uF & 1) 2.5uF . Total 17.5 uF  see this:

I will update this particular comment as I find more. Links to other threads containing useful bits of info will be posted here. 17MFD seems to be the cap needed but review these links to be sure. There was also another method mentioned utilizing a 250w and 400w ballast in series.

I'll see if I have any 18uf caps! What voltage caps do I use currently 1000 watt uses a 24uf at 480volt?

Sounds like 17 or 18uF would be good for a trial run then I'd think at least 480 vac would work but maybe 600 would be better?
