Electrolier is a type of Push Button switch. Can anybody explain what the purpose or the meaning is?

Cam contacts and a ratchet mechanism converting the button pushes to rotating the cam, this has then programmed the switching sequence.

I do know that the term 'electrolier' was sometimes used for chandeliers with electric lights instead of candles.
