No heat output.!!  :poof: The cops are going to love those... :curse:

Finding the houses that glow brightly under IR is the main way they find the grow houses.

The LEP lamps DO produce heat-but not as much.Their TINY bulbs get VERY hot and are under higher pressure than other HID bulbs. The ballasts generate some heat and LTS of RFI,EMI.Electronic ballasts are easierto track than magnetic ones because of the RFI and EMI radiations. And the LEP lamps put out larger amounts of UV-users of these lamps are warned about it-UVB.Stay in the grow room with these lamps--you could get a sunburn or burned eyes. The LEP lamp makers suggest door switches to the grow areas to turn those lights off if the door to the room is opened. And outside switches to turn them off. These grow lamps are also VERY EXPENSIVE-Almost 800-1000$ per fixture. The bulbs aren't user replaceable. You have to send the fixture back to Gavita or other maker to have the light relamped.

Light Emitting Plasma = Electrodeless MH lamp, and it produces the same amount of heat and IR as electroded MH lamps.

I have seen these LEP systems in person a few years back at a horticulture trade show (my wife likes gardening).
They are in fact electrodeless metal halide, with the power inductively coupled to the capsule similarly to induction fluorescent. When switched on they power up quite similarly to a daylight MH lamp.
And regarding the heat, its a bit misleading. A 250w LEP fixture is more efficient than quartz metal halide and therefore emits less heat than the 400w lamp it replaces, but it still produces loads of heat for its power, well, roughly the same heat as a 250w standard MH lamp while emitting the same lumen output as a 400w. The fixture I saw running in person was definitely throwing off some heat.
