In my area the only mercury vapor fixtures you see are ones that were missed during the HPS upgrade and alot of highway sign lights have MV and MH mixed, Probably due to the less maintenance of sign lighting they use MV.

I was in an area last night that was just converted to all HPS. It sucked because one of the fixtures I had serviced about 2-3 months ago in a parking lot was now a nasty HPS. That area had lots of nice old 100w mercs. Of course they are all now 150w HPS. IMO the visibility is not any better due to the coloring of the lights. Point proven that HPS is no good for visibility!

The same thing happened in the neighborhood that I live in now, they used to have mostly 175 watt mercury vapor fixtures everywhere, then month in a half later they all got replaced with 100 watt high pressure sodium fixtures, now they're only 4 mercury vapor fixtures left. I never really liked HPS lights too much, in fact I'm sick of them.

I think the ban got everyone stirred up. The first time I ever saw a massive changeout in the suburbs was back in 2007.

Taking a look back at old topics lol ... Anyway where I am the HPS lamps seem to be turning into mercury vapour due to sodium loss. Every street or roadway has a couple
