This is a post that I personally feel compelled to make.

I joined this website in September of 2008, which was not that long ago, and I have found this site it to be very educational, not to mention exciting (because I feel that I have a forum to express my fascination with lighting in a non-judgmental and supportive atmosphere).

It has come to my realization that recently, Jason Chapman, who is Administrator #3 on this website, and who also has devoted much of his time to providing all of us with POSITIVE feedback, not to mention the fact that he has shared many experiments, and his love of lighting and that which surrounds the lighting industry, has received REPEATED and UNCALLED for smites toward his karma on this site.

Jason (who we all know affectionately as "Jace") gives all of us information that we may otherwise not be privy to if we were not members of this gallery.  He has been attempting to promote the integrity of this site through not only his own knowledge, but through the monitoring of the conversations and comments that are posted on this site.  I would be remiss in neglecting to mention the many unnecessary, immature, and negative comments that some members have posted in response to other members' uploads, and that Jace has had to delete or filter.  Though some members may think that, "Hey, this site is just about light bulbs..." there are others who have made a career out of this (such as myself) and take offense to the lack of decorum that would NEVER be considered standard for a free and unrestricted special interest site such as this.

And as for Jace, who reads EVERYTHING that is posted on this site, and who comments on EVERYBODY'S pictures...and tries to teach us from what he knows...and who wants us to experiment with us...to receive smites is, in my opinion, completely unacceptable.  If you have a problem with one of his comments...perhaps you should do your homework before asserting that you are an authority on ANYTHING on this site.  If you wish to challenge anyone, please choose to challenge yourself instead of the one who is trying to teach you.

Good post Brian!

Everyone, you must know that moderators face a big challenge having to check and read everything here and moderating the posts. It's almost like being in the public eye. In the case of Jace as the #3 guy here, I believe he's a fair adminstrator and keeps things in order here. If the rules are not enforced, then everyone will have the mindset that there are no rules and will go ahead breaking them. If you were a teacher or a principal and didnt get respect from one of the students, how would YOU feel? Think about it guys, moderators deserve the same kind of respect as teachers, principals, police, and other authorities. Good kind of authority means one's tough but fair. Thats why they need respect. So from now on, think TEN times before leaving that smite just cuz you were informed of a rule you need to follow.

I've been a member here since May 2005 and I have contributed a lot to this site. Usually there has been no problems, just occasionally things would go out of hand which were taken care of by the moderators. I've made friends here and posted lots of pics. It's a good idea for members to share each other comments to show respect and appreciation. Anyway thanks for reading all the messages here.

Brian, I totally agree with you also!! I sometimes wonder if this site would even exist if not for Jace's help!! I'm sure being an administrator comes with a LOT of stress but Jace is always there to help us with problems no matter what!! I know I would have never joined L-G if it wasn't for him. I'm thinking the karma thing isn't a very good idea cuz all it takes is one person disagreeing with something to give a smite.

Jace, remember that the vast majority of L-G members really appreciate you!!!!

I entirely agree. I never found a forum as cool as LG. Many forums have over 100,000 people, but here we are about 50 to 75 (really active) and we know everybody on the forum. I learned so many things here (with everybody's help for sure). Personally I rarely use the karma, but I take a look on mine. I got many smites and I know I said something bad, it's not smites from someone immature. I agree with Brian, Jace got many smites and I don't know why, yet he didn't say anything bad, here he told me that I did discrimination, I admit it, I got 3 or 4 smites after, probably not from him. That was the perfect moment to improve something, that's what I did. Anyway I like this website that changed me completly.

Yeah man. I agree that the smites to Jace is uncalled for. He helped me a lot even with things I didn't really agree with him. Even with that I never gave a single smite to him. I haven't seen a single evidence that call for a smite in Jace's comments or postings. He's one honest and fair administrator. He gave a fair and just punishment last year for being a know-it-all. He gave me a chance to explain my action and he reduced the sentence after the explanation.

Jace - you should know that most of us appreciate you and the hard job that you do.

Very well said Brian, Another thing to note is that Jace having the power he does have as an admin, is the ability to change karma on users profiles. He however does not abuse that ability even on himself, which in my personal opinion shows how much of an honest person he is. Jason is more than fair when it comes to issues with users in my opinion. For people to smite him for personal issues or to be just plain ignorant is unacceptable in my opinion. As was said earlier if not for Jace this site would not be as well run as it is, and for all the issues he has to deal with he does a damn awsome job!

i agree..jace is basically what keeps the site running,since he is the most active of the three administrator's...he is important to LG just like a Kidney is important to a Human Being...keeping everything in check and filtering out the waste materials!

I agree with everyone wholeheartedly, Jace is the one who's keeping this site running and he deserves to be treated with respect.

I really appreciate what you all have said!

I decided to do something to make it more fair, and to solve problems....there will be no more "positive points and smite points"  But you still have "points" and you can still applause or smite only.....but smiting just reduces your current points and applause increases it...the more members that likes you the more points youll keep getting added and won't get negative numbers....but if more members smites you than memebers applauses...you may end up getting a below zero points.... How is that for the size?

Also another thing, I made longer time between smites allowed....to reduce abuse....if it still is a problem, it will be changed to longer....

(NOTE: I am aware of the issue with the total point being shown on the gallery part...disregard that part and look at the forum part to see it as I speak to the Webmaster to fix this issue.....)

Great post Brian,I also agree, Jace does a great job as administrator and doesn't deserve any negative karma points,I have never given anybody negative karma, only positive.I have learned alot from this site and enjoy being a member,it's a great place to share our lighting interests and collections,whenever I'm on my computer I have to visit LG!

Why put negative marks? If you disagree with a comment, either say why, in a concise and polite manner, or shut up about it. Positive comments welcomed, as well as rating the good images that you like.

Today at school I had the idea of a one-number karma, I think someone had it faster! (You have the copyright for the idea   ) I think it'd be (very) hard to have a better administrator! 

well i like the new idea and jayce has been a long time friend and family member so has a few others on here but i consider u all close friends the neg karma thing get rid of it theres enough bad stuff in the world as it is so i like the new way alot better. also jayce and the others keep up the great work
