I’ve always been interested in all kinds of lighting, mainly incandescent and HID, and especially all kinds of sodium lamps (HPS/LPS). I’ll tolerate LED but I’m not a fan of it. I’m not proud to say that my city has Devolved to LED.

Yes, it is extremely rare. These lamps were the predecessors of modern SOX lamps and can run on the same gear that is designed for modern SOX lamps. In the case with this bulb, it can be run on 55w SOX gear. In the US, the ideal ballast for this bulb is a Advance 71A0490 or 71A0450 ballast.

I have a little doubt that the lamp is alive -- the third photo don't show the entire lamp and on the second photo I cannot see the drops of sodium on the glass. There is only first photo...

Yes, it's very rare, I've never seen one before. I'm guessing it's an early form of sodium darkroom safelight lamp.

Speaking of that, is it worth it to buy a sodium safelight fixture? I’m looking for an easy way to start running 35w SOX lamps. The price is USD $78. Nice to see you on here again!

Many congrats Ria, I am so pleased that at least this one sold to a collector here! I look forward to see your detail photos soon - if possible also with it lit and running up!
I agree with you that it is probabably some kind of darkroom safelight. As far as I can tell, the red colour might be from real gold-doped or selenium-doped glass rather than some kind of external coating. The lamp is curious because it has a dark coating over the tip and the seal area, and if made from natural coloured glass it would normally be clearer in those areas, so some argon radiation might escape during run-up or as it ages. That would fog photographic films, and the black coating would prevent that. I would be really interested if you could look for that when you receive it! I had also bidded on this and one other, but it surprised me how high they went in price.
