Can you make an emergency ballast not make a light stay on 24/7? « on: October 11, 2020, 04:37:02 PM » Author: LucasColley
I have an emergency florescent ballast constantly running which is fine. But would there be a way for it to turn off and on like a regular switch without triggering the emergency ballast to emergency mode? It’s on a unswitched line and I don’t think it can be on a switched line. There is a diagram for a switched line but when I wired it up it always stays off unless power is lost. If there is no way for me to do this, then why is that? I feel like I understand but I just need some more info. Thank you.

Every emergency ballast I've had has a way to be wired on a switched setup - so the fixture works like any "normal" fluorescent for general use. Emergency mode only kicks in when the power goes out (or in some cases - where its not a wired-in - the fixture is unplugged.)

So like you can just switch it off and on like a normal fixture even when the emergency ballast is hooked up? I tried wiring it to a switched line but the light stays off constantly unless power is lost, then the emergency ballast kicks in. When AC power is restored it just goes back to charging mode and stays off. I’ve tried multiple ways but nothing seems to work. Unless you have a way.

Here is the link to the instructions and other info on the EMERGENCY. BALLAST I have. I may not be able to do it on this ballast. Sorry if I sound dumb.
