How to mount a cobrahead to a fan pole? « on: January 10, 2021, 10:57:35 AM » Author: HPS_250
I have a Lasko fan stand pole that is currently not being used for anything, as the actual fan that goes with it is mounted somewhere else. Is there any way I could mount a cobrahead to it as a display pole?

I’ve always been interested in all kinds of lighting, mainly incandescent and HID, and especially all kinds of sodium lamps (HPS/LPS). I’ll tolerate LED but I’m not a fan of it.
I’m not proud to say that my city has Devolved to LED.

If the pole isn’t too big you can just slide it into the slipfitter and tighten the bolts.

I wouldn't recommend it, the base is too small and the poles are flimsy. I know this because I've destroyed a few. (purposely)

I don't think you're going to find any way to do it without it tipping over. Unless you weigh the base down with some sandbags. Even then the poles for those stand fans are so paper thin I doubt they're strong enough to even hold the fixture without bending. I used to have an arm mounted to the wall in my bedroom in my apartment like 8 years ago. Arm was screwed into a 2x4 that I had secured to the studs in the wall.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I will take your advice and either mount my fixture another way or keep it stored in its box. Fan poles are fairly light and may not be able to support the weight of a light fixture. I don’t want to risk anything falling over, which could result in damage to the surroundings of the pole, or even a broken glass refractor.

When I started collecting street lights when I lived with my parents I didn't keep any in the box. I had mine all laying against the wall in my bedroom, each with its own extension cord already connected to the terminal block ready to be fired up at all times. I don't have my own house at the moment so I have lights all over the place. Most of them are in my storage unit. I have maybe about a dozen or so left at my parents house that I need to move out. Plus I have a few in my office at work lol.

The main thing to remember when mounting a lantern on a pole is that the lantern's centre of gravity is within whatever you decide to use as a base.
And that the base needs to be heavier than the lantern if possible or at least more than half its weight.

I briefly had my R47 on a base I built from a brake rotor and a 1-1/4 NPT pipe stub. See here for the picture.
