2022 Bulb of the Year « on: December 13, 2022, 03:24:02 PM » Author: Econolite03
Here’s a refreshing change of pace. It’s almost the new year, and I’m sure some of us gallery members are looking back on 2022.

Here’s kinda a tough question… what do you think should be the 2022 bulb of the year for L-G? To be more specific, which bulb (include make, model, wattage, technology) do you think was talked about the most amongst members? Why was it so unique? Should it be the /R Lifeguard? Old fluorescent tubes? Unusual sodium lamps? Whatever it may be, what do you think should be the bulb of year?

Mine is probably going to be the Westinghouse H38-4JA/W that a few of us got here.

I’d say the Ken-Rad /Ws and Westinghouse /Rs that popped up recently. Another candidate would be BT25’s 400 watt westy /W that went for like 200 bucks on the bay.

Thanks for the responses so far everyone, let’s try to get more in! The top 3 most mentioned lamps in this thread will be placed into a ranking list, the highest one will win the title. But before we do that, let’s hear more submissions (if this makes sense so far).

Already mentioned lamps:
#1 - 400W Ken-Rad /W
#2 - 400W Westinghouse /R
#3 - 100W Westinghouse /W
#4 - 400W Westinghouse /W
#5 - 280W GEC SOI/H
#6 -         MAT
#7 - 150W Sylvania Unalux Clearbander
#8 - GE H3000A9

The thing with the MATs is that to my knowledge they were all trades from other collectors and not new discoveries. If someone found a MAT/V that would 100% be a candidate.

I don't understand that. What does where you get a lamp from have to do with it..? Or are we only talking about new discoveries that nobody has ever seen before..? That's going to be a very short shortlist  ???

I think another good candidate that comes to mind might be the late 70s ULX-150 Unalux 150w HPS clearbanders too.

That’s a good one, added.

One more bulb, then submissions will be closed! Make sure it’s something good.

HID, LPS, and preheat fluorescents forever!!!!!!

Re: 2022 Bulb of the Year « Reply #14 on: December 16, 2022, 04:20:57 AM » Author: WorldwideHIDCollectorUSA
For my lamps of the year, I would go with my Panasonic FTL13EX-L, FTL13EX-N, FGL13EX-L, and FGL13EX-N lamps because they are highly unusual decorative non-integrated CFL lamps intended for the Japanese market and are intended to run on F15T8 preheat fluorescent tube ballasts for that country.

Here is a picture of them all grouped together:

https://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=6271&pos=4&pid=221270

In addition, I would also like to have my Japanese NEC FL10EDF-SHG fluorescent tubes as well because they have a unique afterglow feature that allows them to remain illuminated with a faint glow after being turned off.

Here is a picture of these tubes in operation and after being turned off:

https://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=6271&pos=20&pid=213907

Lastly, I would also like to include my 1986 Osram Dulux L 36W/21 CFL lamp that I imported from Germany because it features a 4 pin base that is largely obsolete known as a G32Q-1 base rather than the typical 2G11 base seen on most lamps of this type.

Here are pictures of the lamp lit up and unlit:
