I would not be surprised the hot humidity and consequent corrosion to be quite a severe factor...

I don't think that the actual lifespan of HPS lamps, is affected by humidity and temperature.
I think they mean useful lifespan when they said 5000 hours. I think in greenhouses, the HPS lamps are replaced before they reaches actual EOL.
