I'm looking for RGB lighting that I may be able to use in the very rare case where I might switch over to them... either when friends are over for a party, or
during some Video Game Smackdowns. Preferably battery operated RGB lighting that I can hide perfectly, especially if LED. Much like all of my living room
fluorescent lighting, I'd want to be able to control those RGB lights through phone, and I'd want the kind that I can simply stick to the wall, and also
behind my TV. They must be very narrow and tough to notice. I recently bought tall house plants, so I could easily hide them behind those as well, or behind
the cabinets beside my TV upstairs -- even better. This will be the only LED's to ever make it into my apartment through my decision, and they will only be
used for party or gaming situations, if I use them at all. I will buy a couple of them for my downstairs as well.

I would say strips are probably your best bet. They're fairly narrow and you can even put them behind the fluorescent fixtures on your shelf. For long term installation I do recommend getting some extruded aluminum channels for them. It'll look a bit better than bare LED strips ad also reduce hotspotting. 

What about Philips Hue LED strips? They can sync to TVs and match what's on screen, plus be controlled by phone

@joseph_125, I'm hoping to keep the LED strips away from the fixtures. Right now I'm really considering putting them behind the cabinets and
the TV upstairs, while keeping them completely hidden.
@LightsAreBright27, I've been considering the Philips hue LED strips, but I'm hoping to get strips that are battery operated.
