| I'm looking for RGB lighting that I may be able to use in the very rare case where I might switch over to them... either when friends are over for a party, or
during some Video Game Smackdowns. Preferably battery operated RGB lighting that I can hide perfectly, especially if LED. Much like all of my living room
fluorescent lighting, I'd want to be able to control those RGB lights through phone, and I'd want the kind that I can simply stick to the wall, and also
behind my TV. They must be very narrow and tough to notice. I recently bought tall house plants, so I could easily hide them behind those as well, or behind
the cabinets beside my TV upstairs -- even better. This will be the only LED's to ever make it into my apartment through my decision, and they will only be
used for party or gaming situations, if I use them at all. I will buy a couple of them for my downstairs as well.

| I would say strips are probably your best bet. They're fairly narrow and you can even put them behind the fluorescent fixtures on your shelf. For long term installation I do recommend getting some extruded aluminum channels for them. It'll look a bit better than bare LED strips ad also reduce hotspotting.

@joseph_125, I'm hoping to keep the LED strips away from the fixtures. Right now I'm really considering putting them behind the cabinets and the TV upstairs, while keeping them completely hidden. @LightsAreBright27, I've been considering the Philips hue LED strips, but I'm hoping to get strips that are battery operated.

| I'd personally avoid anything that requires an app to control (but thats just me) because the app is likely spyware.
As far as battery-powered, your best bet is to get USB-powered and run it off one of those powerbank type batteries for charging phones & stuff.

@xmaslightguy, unfortunately I'll be screwed regarding that, in terms of all of my T12 fixtures. I use smart plugs to turn on/off all of them. I hate the thought of spyware, but this is the best method I've used so far in terms of controlling all of my T12 fixtures. Powerbanks... that may be a REALLY good idea. I'll have to look into using those, then find a way to hide everything behind the TV, TV stand and cabinets.

| If you have a IKEA near you I'd consider IKEA RGB LED strips as well. They also make lamps but haven't tried the RGB version.
I have some GE (Savant) Cync lamps and they're fairly affordable compared to Hue. I haven't had any issue with the connection as well. I tried LiFX as well, and while the lamp did have better light quality and the colours were better, the connection wasn't that reliable, a shame since they look better than the GE Cync lamps.
Just something to note about the powerbanks, depending on the strip lights, some powerbanks might not think a load is attached and might not provide power to them or just shut off randomly a few minutes later. It depend on how the LED strip implements the USB power handshake and if the power source is designed to look for this handshake before outputting power.

@joseph_125, I noticed that both of my TV's have USB outlets... I wonder if I might be able to stick an LED strip into them? This is something I'm considering, at least in terms of behind the TV LED strips. I'll keep that in mind regarding the powerbanks not working with LED strips. There is an Ikea near me, 22 minutes away down south. I'll look into going there and buying those Ikea RGB strips. I may have to figure out what to do regarding strip length as well. I don't know as much about LED strips as I do fluorescent lighting. lol Those LED's will only be used for short term lighting, during video games and *sometimes* during movies, though I prefer all lights off when I'm watching a movie. lol... I bet it will be awesome switching off all of my F30T12's and then switching on those LED's... I'm hoping to be able to do this with my phone, though the LED's will likely be controlled through a different app.

| Those USB ports on TVs are meant for pluggin in a USD drive, so you can watch videos or view photos on it.
They generally can't handle allot of power since they are not meant as a charging port.
But yeah one of those little LED strips meant to mount on the back of a TV should be perfectly fine. You just wouldn't want to run a strip all the way across or around the room from it.
(I'm pretty sure both Target & Walmart sell those too, and they're way cheaper than the Philips ones)
joseph_125 did bring up a good point on powerbanks, with some if the connected device doesn't draw enough current, the stupid thing will just turn off after a minute. A truly annoying "feature".
If you want to use the same app as your smart plugs, only chance might be if the same brand makes LED strips. That may be more of an eBay or Amazon type thing to look for.

@xmaslightguy, in the app, on the "Add manually" section, there is a section that allows for adding LED strips, but I'm guessing it would have to be their brand (Geeni) of LED strips. This is something I'll look into as well, and there is a chance that Walmart may sell those Geeni LED strips too. I'll have to check when I stop by the Walmart near me soon.
