Still about $700 too much. ::)

If I knew I could get that much for one, I would be much more inclined to break into some old buildings ;D

@nicksfans, I got about 65 Sylvania HF100 fixtures from a customer of mine years ago.  They fetch over $100 on E Bay.  Aint no tellin what some of those half pipers you photographed in downtown Anderson would bring...But I personally am not interested in the dollar value of my lighting.  I have it because I love it, have a passion for it and enjoy displaying/using it.  I want mine to go to fellow collectors when I go EOL, not "go to the highest bidder".

When I was a kid back in the early 60s I used to pull this kind of stuff in way better condition than this out of the dumpsters for free :D.

I'm surprised they were already tossing these lights in the 60s. Outdated looks maybe?

Yeah it was the space age then and everything was going modern.
Department stores were gutting out all that old 1940s look and putting in modern fixtures and all new lighting.
Modern fashion bars were the in thing.

A lot of stores wanted that modern image.
Many super markets were gutted out and the old fixtures were just piled up for scrap.
There was a Safeway store down the street that was modernized and there was a big pile of 40 watt preheat fixtures with bulbs in perfect condition, you could have all you wanted :D.
It was not unusual to see piles of these behind stores next to the trash cans in the early 1960s.

Some still survived, in factories, warehouses and places like hardware stores.

Interesting, I guess the mass push to "go modern" isn't a recent thing for stuff like lighting. Except back then it was the people's choice, whereas now government force plays a big part of it...  ::)

I agree, back then wants and economics were the motivating factors to decide to modernize lighting.
Your choice.

Today the government tells you are going to modernize lighting whether you like it or not.
No choice.

I think what looks like a third lampholder in the second picture is just a place where a trim piece would install...maybe?

It would be nice to have if it was not so beat up and missing parts. ???
It would have been a real nice one when it was first installed.
It looks like just two bulbs to me, but hard to tell from these pictures.
Should just price it as a parts fixture.
That asking price is just too far out there.
