I doubt this law will be enforced.

No you don't. just refit it with either a metal halide or HPS ballast and lamp.

All Arizona: All Mercury Vapor Light Fixtures will be Illegal to use

This makes it sound like its enforced..........I think this is wrong!

Now you don't have to get that drastic.  I told you, replace the ballast with MH or HPS.

From a purely asthetic POV, that may be, but I think the lawmakers have a point.  BTW, get a ballast kit that burns both MH and merc.  Besides, if you switch over to MH, you'll get a better color and much better efficiency.

It just goes to show how messed up our government is today. Too many dumb laws being passed like this, besides most metal halide ballasts can take mercury vapor lamps 175 watts and above.

Someone told me that he read that in Arizona the mercury ban law is ONLY for outside.....not inside houses or buildings so that means it is OKAY to have mercury vapor fixtures and bulbs inside the house.......so mercury vapor lights inside your house is safe.....

Maybe you could rewire for high output daylight CFL...but I know it won"t be the same. I tried to convert a nema yardlight to 175w MH, but the head gets so hot it cracked the cap...you would have to remote mount the cap, but some 70w MH don't use caps.
