Alright, first plans are becoming a bit more concrete.

As I arrive 1st of April in LA, I will sleep two nights there. April 3rd, I get my rental car there, heading to the south in direction of San Diego. It just means, in which area approximately we could meet up? After, I will go further to Phoenix AZ, Tucson, El Paso and ABQ. So it will be a bit more than California :)

We could meet up at the Loma Linda ReStore, assuming you're driving and using the I-10 driving to Phoenix and the other cities. It's just off the freeway. There is a lot of lighting things every once in while there.

So, due to known restrictions, it will be hopefully later in 2020, for sure not April 2020.

All the best to you all!

Hi there

I just push this thread up because I will hopefully visiting the US in September. We will go to Mexico Sep 6th and spend 15 days there, after we will fly to San Francisco Sep 21. Because of the travel ban of the US for Schengen countries and some more, we will do these 15 days in Mexico, but this will be cool as well!

Our Roadtrip will be something like SF - Sacramento - Reno - Salt Lake City - Denver - Santa Fe - ABQ - El Paso - Tucson - Phoenix - Las Vegas - San Diego - LA - SF.

If you have some good hints or maybe even Dont's for this approximate Roadtrip, I will be curious for it!

As well, it would be cool to meet some of you people!

@Proteus: San Diego and the vicinity still has some remaining LPS lighting in use. Escondido still has a fair amount still in service. Hopefully, Escondido isn't too far out of your way.

Don't know when I'll get there again, it all depends on when I can guarantee not seeing  :curse: face coverings, my phobia of them prevents any travel until that happens. Hopefully next year  :bulbman:

If you are interested in LEDs then I can highly recommend trying to call in at the former Hewlett-Packard / Philips Lumileds HQ and plant in San Jose, if they are now accepting visitors again.  They are very friendly folks and I always found it fascinating to see their state of the art production and test facilities for the semiconductor wafers.

After visiting them last time, I drove over to Las Vegas for a conference (via Dave Silverliner!) which was a particularly memorable trip.  I can highly recommend to take a slightly longer route via Lake Isabella and Death Valley - some really impressive scenery.  And then behave yourselves in LV ;-)  Enjoy the trip!

Hey James

Thanks for your answer! We are at Lake Tahoe at the moment, and we will continue to Mammoth Lakes. I will surely consider your advice, as we drive back to the bay area!

Yesterday, I could have a look at the centennial bulb in Livermore CA, very impressive! The fire fighters in the station opened the doors and we had a nice talk about the bulb. Due to Covid-19 it would be closed and not possible to go inside the building, but as the firefighters heard from where we are and therefore, our very long way to visit this place, they let us in :)

Again, I‘m still open to any further ideas :)

All the best… Marc
