I would love to know if anyone besides HomeBrewLamps, streetlight98, and DaveMan has made any DIY HID fixtures or converted normally incandescent fixtures to HID?

Converted 300W linear halogen torchiere to 70W double ended CMH, include 2-way dimmable ballast (ballast made of two F36T8 and one PL-S choke all in parallel, with one of the F36 ones disconnected for the reduced power setting; ballasts in the base instead of the original stability weight, igniter in the head close to the lamp).

And then the "obligatory" linear halogen flood conversion to the same 70W linear MH, with a remote ballast mounted in an old PC power supply box...

I have done this as well. Mainly table lamps for now, with one exterior post light. Others to come, but I have no idea when...

I do this all the time. I've got several floor lamps, a few wall-lights, and even a chandelier. As I understand it, if it has some sort of pulse-start, the ballast should be close by. However, I've had the ballast 10 feet away from a 150W metal halide and HPS before though with no (obvious) starting issues.

I have installed a 70W SON E/I in a plain pendant in a commune room (with the ballast wired remotely)

Also converted some Incandescent luminaires to PL, and once a HID lantern converted also to PL for use as an indoors lamp
