Dayburners « on: March 18, 2009, 08:18:47 PM » Author: lightingcollector84
I was just wondering if any of you report dayburning lights to be repaired. Also do you feel they are truely a waste of energy, or simply doesn't bother you.

There is actually very few dayburners around here.It doesn't really bother me as I don't see dayburners too often. If there is one,it's taken care of pretty quick.I rather see a dayburner than a fixture that is not working at all.It would be more of a waste of energy if there is a whole string of lights dayburning.

Here a dayburner is serviced in less than 2 week, but before I used to see a dayburner for less than 3 days before it was serviced.

I have never seen any dayburning streetlight in here Finland. Because in here, streetlights are centraly controlled. Those dont have own photocell. In smaller place(small villages etc) there is usually normal photocell somewhere wich control all streetlights nearby. In bigger place like Rovaniemi(thats where I live) there is bigger system. there usually are 50-200 streetlight in one control unit depending on location. All control units are remotely controlled. They did have some problem whit that system couple of years ago. Streetlights went off and then back on(of course after they cooled down) randomly couple of times in week. this usually happened in area of 1-3 random control unit each time. Nobody knows why the system did this but after half of year they got it fixed.

So no dayburning streetlights in here Finland.

As I mentioned before, there are very few dayburners here, but I just remembered though, about 1 1/2 years ago along the freeway, the street lights at a rest-stop that would be maintained by the highways department were dayburning for almost a year! There was aproximately 15 X 250W HPS fixtures. :o

I almost never see dayburners here on Long Island.  I would say in the last year I have only seen one.  There are MANY cycling HPS fixtures here though...which bothers me much more than seeing one dayburn.

I do see dayburners once in a while around here. It may take days or months before they're serviced.

I personally dont report them, I just go fix them! ;D . I hate seeing them. Our utility has always been pretty good about fixing them. As jace said earlier PEPCO is horrible, you can hardly go one road with out seeing one.

Why I like LEDs on top of other lighting tech?
LEDs = Upgrade 95% of the applications. (That is if you avoid eBay's LEDs).

LED brainwash? No, people uses them cuz they work well for them.
