Do Sylvania Silverstar put out a whiter LED colored light? And why is the lifespan so vastly shorter than regular halogen headlight bulbs?

The lamp is designed to operate at higher temperature, so even after the bluish filter strips out a lot of light, the resulting intensity matches the standard. Consequence is shorter lamp life, there is no way around that.

Personally I prefer the long life flavor, even when it means just an average light output. Because the thing limitting my vision is the overillumination just close in front of the car, making the far distance relatively dark. Because that is how the optic is designed (the insane popularity of small size high beam reflectors among car designers) no lamp may change that at all...
