I still have an old Nokia 3560 that I got 16 years ago.  It still powers on, but the TDMA network it connected to is long gone.

Fortunately they have not switched off the 2G network that these use. I don't think they can easily, there are too many "phone home" remote monitoring devices that use it.

I use an iPhone 11, it’s perfectly fine for me and I don’t really think I’ll need to upgrade for a long time.

I’ve always been interested in all kinds of lighting, mainly incandescent and HID, and especially all kinds of sodium lamps (HPS/LPS). I’ll tolerate LED but I’m not a fan of it.
I’m not proud to say that my city has Devolved to LED.

We just don't trust anything "smart" - you don't know what they're doing or reporting in the background. We just want phones that make phone calls.

I know what you mean, sometimes it’s unsettling to hear about how much data these companies collect from people without them knowing.
Apple at least gives me the option to turn off their ability to collect usage data and diagnostics, and I don’t use their cloud storage, so I think most of my data is safe anyway.

The worst for data mining is Amazon, I saw a BBC documentary last year that made me close my account on the spot  :poof:

I use my smartphone regularly, but once I get my PC setup I’ll start using that more often.

Data mining? Does a Amazon employee with a hard hat walk into a data center with a pickaxe or something?

Let's just say that if you thought Google or Microsoft know a lot about you, they don't hold a candle to Amazon.

I block anything Micro$oft that I know of at the network level. I have zero interest in any of their online services, and deff no interest/want in anything beyond Windows 8.
To me Micro$oft is probably the worst one out there, with Google a close second.

Google I have to put up with some since my phone is Android, and I use YouTube (both for posting & watching vid's)...that said, I do block some of their spy/ad servers.
I'll never infect any of my computers with that vile-spyware-laden Chrome browser.
I also delete or disable all un-necessary apps on my tablets & phones (no do I install anything unless i really want it - like a certain weather app)

And Mac-In-Trash (also known as Apple)... don't believe that crap ain't spying on you!

I don't do Amazon. Most stuff I buy online is eBay. (And for general stuff that's available locally, I prefer to just go to the store...)

I also don't do Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/TicToc(the very worst of the lot)/etc/whatever else 'social media' is out there.

------
Oh and I'm fine with 'smart' devices (I have a smart-TV for example)...as long as they will function normally without being connected to the internet.

I upgraded to an iPhone 15 earlier this week. I had the iPhone SE 2 before, which I got in late 2020. It still technically worked, but it didn’t have much memory and it seemed like every time I wanted to take a picture or video it was full no matter how much I deleted.

Plus it was finicky and a lot of webpages just wouldn’t load properly and copy and paste didn’t work all the time. With the memory it also wouldn’t download any apps, I’d had to delete all of them except for YouTube and Pandora.

I just kept using it but finally I just got tired of fussing with it and being unprepared to take a video or picture when I wanted to.

Originally I was planning to get the iPhone SE 3 which was just a newer version of what I had, but I decided to splurge instead on this one and I went ahead and got 1 TB of memory which was likely way overkill, but I use a lot of apps and things so I wanted it to work for a long time. Plus since my computer died a few years ago I use the phone now for all my web browsing and video watching so something with a bigger screen is nice. The iPhone SE 2 I had was actually smaller than my first Samsung Galaxy it replaced.

I ordered it open box on eBay which made it cheaper, it was supposed to be new condition, but it had two nicks on the corners which don’t bother me because it would likely get that anyway.

Probably could’ve gotten an Android and been fine but I’m used to iOS anyway. What I don’t like is all the connectors change, my old one had a Lightning port and this one has the USB-C so I can’t use the same cables or headphones. And for some reason my wireless charger doesn’t work on this. I also miss the button on the bottom which takes getting used to not having and the screen and flashlight adjustments are different on this.

Also this does still seem to work fine with the Bluetooth on my Ford Taurus from 2016 just like the old one and my old Samsung.

I constantly switch between apple and samsung. First I had a Samsung s3,  small but worked well. Then I upgraded to an iphone 6s for bigger screen size. Then I started using iphone XS for even bigger screen size. But I wanted a phone with better camera quality, so I started using a samsung S21 ultra. And now I have an Samsung S24 ultra (the one with the pen) as I like to doodle. I also have the iphone 13 pro max but it's a little too heavy for daily use.

The funny thing is on smasungs the way the battery dies is unpredictable. On some phones it will stay strong between 5% to 1%, but on other phones the battery works fine above 5%, but then drops down by the second below that. On iphones it is predictable, it just slowly loses overall capacity.

Current status of thevphones: the s3 went missing/got stolen, the iphone 6 works but 40 second battery life :DeAtH: , the iphone XS was given to someone who needed a phone, the iphone 13 and s21 ultra are kept safe.

Im using my phone more as my pc decided to break, and my laptop is sent in for repair. The only other pc I have is from 2014 and the only other laptop is from 2008. So I use my phone more for browsing sites.

Still using the S20FE I commented earlier when I got the phone new. Been thinking about upgrading from time to time but the battery still lasts decently long and I like having a lot of local store on my phone so I'm not a fan of how most phone manufacturers eliminated microSD slots on their flagship phones...Interestingly some mid range phones still have it.
