I’ve always been interested in all kinds of lighting, mainly incandescent and HID, and especially all kinds of sodium lamps (HPS/LPS). I’ll tolerate LED but I’m not a fan of it.
I’m not proud to say that my city has Devolved to LED.

You can legitimately call a glaring HID light a glare bomb, but there aren't HID arctubes where the arc is as concentrated (power per area of light emitter, as we see it when staring at it) as a LED chip. Bad optics of LEDs create glare levels i never seen before even when starting into a HID arctube....
I couldn’t agree with you more, it’s absolutely horrible. It actually blows my mind that they could actually get through manufacturing. Zero optics one little chip as bright as the surface of the sun it’s like looking into an arc welder or worse. And they put these things up on poles to light the street with a 8 foot spot on the ground, that’s what happens when new kids on the block design lighting and have no freaking clue what they’re doing they must be right out of school and have no interest in lighting at all. Trying to reinvent what the engineers spent the last 100 years getting perfect. Gotta love it. Got a few on my street with one dime sized nuclear chip, I could almost see the mushroom cloud above the fixture. |
