Replaced an EOL F20 plant/aquarium lamp (and the starter) in one of my aquarium lights.

I saw this video: https://i.imgur.com/lL3130r.mp4

I wonder if the guy even knows that the mercury, as small as the amount is, sticks to the phosphor and glass.

Back on Monday I got a 175w MV shoebox light that I'm currently in the process of repainting and restoring, the place I got it from has a parking lot full of them and the guys working on changing them out gave me one (and seemed to be willing to give me more  8;) )
I might go back and see if I can get some of the floodlights that's there as well along with another one (or 2) of the shoebox lights cause why not  ::)
(I've done a lot of lighting related things recently, just haven't had the time to post about any of it)

I think HPS, MV, and MH rule! :mv: :mvc: :hps: :emh: Fluorescent lights are also awesome!

Tested, cleaned, and serviced a number of 1987-1988 Lithonia Lighting 2xF40T12 fluorescent strip lights so that I can install them in the lighting workshop next weekend. The fixtures were acquired from FaceBook MarketPlace back in November.

The fixtures have a mix of ballasts, mostly Universal 446-LR-TC-Ps, a couple Advance R-2S40-TPs, and one has a GE electronic ballast which will likely be replaced. One fixture did not come with a ballast. All ballasts seem to work just fine, so I will go ahead and install the fixtures. A couple of lampholders needed to be replaced.

For cleaning, I disassembled the fixtures and pressure washed the housings, then I went back in with some wipes and put the fixtures back together. Took several hours to get them all done, but I’m glad they are all finished now. There is some rust on a few of the fixtures, but I won’t worry about that for the time being.

Installed some fluorescent strip lights in my lighting workshop today! Fixtures are all 1988 Lithonia Lighting C240 strip lights. Lamps are a mix of 34W halophosphate CW and 40W triphosphor 4100K, all different brands. Ballasts are a mix of Advance R-2S40-TP and Universal 446-LR-TC-P. I quite like the way this turned out, it has a very oldschool vibe to it.. Lighting is much more intense and even than the single shoplite that was there before. Eventually, there will be two switches controlling two sets of fixtures, but for now, everything is plugged into an outlet until I can get a new run of wiring installed for switches.

@rapidstart_12 — couple of questions: where did you source these from, and how are they switched on/off?

Superb install!

@Maxim - Thank you for the feedback!

As far as sourcing goes, I got this lot of fixtures from facebook marketplace after waiting over a year and a half for a decent listing in my area to become available. You’d think F40T12 strip lights would be a pretty easily obtained fixture, but to get so many matching vintage ones is surprisingly difficult. The listing included the seven 1988 Lithonia C240s used in the install along with two similar 1987 units, a cheap shoplight, and a newer wraparound with broken diffuser, plus a bunch of newer and older lamps.

For switching, I just have the fixtures plugged into a small switch adapter thingy that plugs into an outlet. This is temporary until I can get a proper wiring setup installed (was planning to install the fixtures after that was done but decided to do them before). The fixtures are internally wired for two switches, but everything it just tied to one plug for the moment.

@rapidstart_12 — I see. Looks very nicely done. Now I await the "final" setup pics.  ;D
