... I just noticed something... well, I noticed it since the morning after the big storms hit, but it looks as if it continues.
One of the apartment buildings, at least one side of that building, seems to have no electricity. Maybe I'm wrong and maybe all the people
in each unit turned off every single one of their lights... but if that be the case, I don't think I have ever seen that before. There has
always been at least a little bit of light from at least one or two units, whether it be inside of their living room or bedroom, or their
porch light. On that building, every single light on one side is off, as well as the nearby post top light... and it's been the same since the
morning after that big storm... so it looks like part of the apartment complex may be without power due to those storms.
Hopefully this is not the case... that's a long time of no power.

@suzukir122: Sounds to me like a localized outage possibly a fuse cutout up on a pole blew out from the storms.
Depending on the utility company themselves and how much damage they have to repair if it's a small outage say one building it can take time for them to respond.
I once saw FPL take 24 hours to restore power to 14 houses served by the same transformer.

@xmaslightguy, and to think there are actually some people out there that are *hoping* to get rid of tornado sirens.

Yep.. I remember seeing a news article about that, last year I think.
Some towns were considering rid of their siren systems (and some already have)...to cut out the expense of ongoing maintenance and/or repairs - the thing to note here is many of these systems are old, and in some cases reaching the end of their lifespan (or have already and fail to work when needed), some of them simply need replaced due to age or lack of maintenance.

Their justification being the not only cost, but also "everyone has cellphones these days" where they can receive alerts.
Ofcourse thats a real bad move for multiple reasons:
Cell coverage is still spotty at best outside big cities, and in many small rural towns.
There are a good number of people (particularly elderly - in rural areas) who do not have or want a cellphone (assuming they can even get coverage).
Cell networks can and do easily fail in storms due to the towers being damaged/destroyed. (not only that, the networks get overloaded easily outside of big cities)

Another bad thing that there has been talk (but no plans) of is shutting down transmitters for weather-radio.

They say if you live in an area prone to severe weather, you should have multiple ways to receive warnings!
But if the town shuts down its siren system, and/or the feds shut sown weather-radio, then what...
You have a phone that may (or may not) receive the need warning/alert.

The county where I'm at doesn't have tornado sirens (the chances of such storms are very minimal here, what would probably be called a 'non-zero chance')... but I have heard them from neighboring cities.

I disabled alerts on my phone, because I do not want it going off. Ever. Especially at night.

   tons of days of way too much heat and humidity. I'll take that over winter weather any day, but still, I don't like extreme heat.

Been lots of hot days here this summer as well...but the diff being (for the most part), humidity during those hot days has been normal - less than 20% (was some days where it dropped to less than 10% too).
There has been some rain here lately because 'monsoon season', but overall this summer was pure drought, lust like last winter & spring.
Some of the small creeks here even ran dry this summer...

@xmaslightguy, it's really a shame when overall costs matter more than the importance of certain situations. The goal of tornado sirens is to save lives,
and they know this. We've seen A LOT of situations of "we wish we could have warned our city better," or "maybe we could have done this better," regarding
catastrophic tornadoes. Getting rid of tornado sirens can and probably will result in major mass casualty events, and it will also increase the likely-hood
of people developing the mindset of not taking the warnings seriously. Relying on cell phone tech alone is... what I would expect from the movie, Idiocracy.
The combination of tornado sirens and the warnings on our cell phones, as well as warnings from the weather radio technology... THAT'S what their goal should
be. The more warning sources, the better... regardless of cost. As long as lives are saved, that's what should matter most.
I'm... still in shock that taking down tornado sirens in certain cities is even a thing.

I don't think some of those places are even taking them down (which costs money to do), but rather simply disconnecting them & leaving the stuff there.

I remember talk on one of the weather forums I look at (and I think it was in the news too)..a couple years ago
Where a town was hit by a tor (and a fairly bad one at that), and either some or all of the sirens failed to sound. If I remember right, part of it was caused by a storm-related power failure, but part because the siren system was so old & degraded that they simply didn't sound.

Don't remember if there were were any deaths from that storm, but there were injuries. And people from the town were saying "we had no warning" "the sirens never went off".
Which just goes to prove...people do listen for the sirens, and expect them as a warning.

Ok..a power outage, I understand. That happens. But when the siren is there & has power but doesn't get the activation signal (and thus doesn't sound) because things weren't maintained, that is bs.

@xmaslightguy, I highly agree and I've also been hearing more "we had no warning" cases a lot recently... AND... during several Tornado Compilations that
I've just recently watched, I've noticed in many of those (poor quality, Facebook live, short, vertical... all by commoners that have no idea how to film)
videos, the majority of each video had no sirens going off in the background, even during the violent EF3 or higher tornadoes. That's really unfortunate
and kinda scary to think about. Luckily over here, it seems as if Ohio takes tornado sirens seriously, and during our recent severe weather encounter/Tornado
Warning, they did literally everything right. I wasn't prepared and that was my fault, but I was warned, so in the event where a tornado actually happened,
I would have been ready, and listening for the roar, then taking shelter if the tornado were close by.
